OTHER PROGRAMS >> HOMESTAYS

Tired of the thought of yet another resort, yet another anonymous room, want to have a completely different experience of a beautiful country?

We can arrange "homestays" in Santiago de Cuba and several other cities in Eastern and Central Cuba. Like the English Bed and Breakfast, a Cuban homestay allows you to meet and mingle with a Cuban family, find out the local restaurants, move away from the crowd of vacationers.

Learn a little Spanish, eat a little beans and rice, smell the flowers, and walk a few of the paths less taken.

Cuban families who offer rooms to tourists must be licensed by the local government. The rooms are inspected regularly. Your host must register each guest with Immigration so you will have to supply your passport number.

Normally the room will be air-conditioned or be supplied with a large electric fan. Most tourist rooms have a double or queen sized bed, a few have two single beds. Most have a private bathroom, or one shared with one other tourist room. Most bathroom showers have hot water, if not, hot water will be supplied by your host on request. Please remember that Cuban cities often face water shortages, so use water carefully.

Cubans are wonderfully welcoming hosts. Often you will be greeted with a cup of fragrant coffee; cold, boiled water is usually available from your hosts.

If you feel like a few hours of R & R most hosts will welcome you into their living space or onto their patio to rock away the heat of the day in the shade.

Ask your hosts about any special places to visit; if you are concerned about safety, check with your hosts.

Homestays are available with the following tours:
     Everday Life in Cuba
     Cultural & Heritage Tours
     Micro Tours
