MICRO TOURS >> REVOLUTIONARY BEGINNINGS

In 1959 Fidel Castro stood on a balcony overlooking the central square in Santiago de Cuba and declared the defeat of Baptista and the beginning of the Cuban Revolutionary Government.

Come back in time and visit the places where it all started. Feel the force of the Lucha Clandestina, drive the routes of the revolutionary attempt of July 26, 1953. Walk the mountains and visit the site of Castro's mountain command post.

Air-conditioned transportation, interpreter, expert guides; all tours include lunch.

Tour 1

A drive in the country will take us to the first Revolutionary hideout not far from Santiago.. We'll visit a Museum devoted to the beginnings of the Revolutionary struggle and the abortive attempt to take over Santiago. From there we will follow their trail into the heart of Santiago. We'll visit museums devoted to some of the central figures of the day, the notorious Moncada Barracks and the Palacio de Justicia where Castro made his historic speech.

You will be provided with refreshments during the morning and afternoon walks, and lunch at a paladar.

Tour 2

This THREE day tour will take you to the sites of the five year long struggle of the revolutionaries. We will visit the battlefields of the Revolution and the Mountains which turned teenage romantics into soldiers and an asthmatic medical student into a hero of a generation.

Our first stop will be in Historical Bayamo, famous for its diversionary role in the abortive assault on the Moncada Barracks, and as the site of the declaration of independence from Spain in 1868. We'll spend the next two nights at a Mountain Spa deep in the Terece Frente area of the Sierra Maestra. In the morning a helicopter flight will take us on to the command post of La Platta the site of Radio Rebelde and Fidel Castro's command Post. After a special barbecue we'll be joined by Cuban revolutionary soldiers who will share their experiences with you around a blazing fire. Before returning to Santiago we will visit the Historic Sites of the Terece Frente.

This tour includes accommodation for two nights, three meals per day, helicopter flight, special barbecue evening, air conditioned transportation, guides and interpreters.
