MICRO TOURS >> BIRDS AND BUTTERFLIES OF ORIENTE
A special one day tour of one of Eastern Cuba's best birding and butterfly locations.
The leading ornithologist of the Museum of Natural History will be your guide. An air conditioned ride will take you to the slopes of the Gran Piedra outside Santiago de Cuba.
Here among stands of bamboo, orange groves and coffee plantations your guide will call the birds to you. Cuba is a major migratory path and over wintering ground and northern species abound.
Higher, amid a cloud forest of giant ferns and orchids, he will help you spot some of the island's most colourful butterflies. If you are lucky you may see the rare and beautiful Crystal Butterfly.
You end the day at Gran Piedra with a tour of the high altitude gardens which attract many birds and butterflies.
Please note that this tour leaves Santiago de Cuba about 6:00 a.m. and returns late afternoon. Breakfast is served during the ride out of Santiago and there are snacks and juice during your walk. Lunch taken at a restaurant in the country.
ATTENTION BIRDERS - OTHER BIRDING OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE.
